SHUGEYS AND NOISE AROUND HIM

Shugeyz is a genre of music whose exact description will not be found. In order to understand approximately what is at stake, you can imagine a distant song, the words of which you cannot make out, heard outside the window in a room on the outskirts of the city, where you sit alone on Friday evening. Schuizezers create similar moods with the help of their guitars and … something else, no less important, and even giving rise to the name of the entire direction.
Literally “shoegaze” or “shoegazing,” as it would be more correct to “look at your shoes.” British journalists described with this word the concerts that are going on according to this scenario: four guys of plain appearance, also just dressed, hold guitars and look at their feet. True, the thing is that the guys look is chained to the guitar pedals, without which everything started would have no meaning. Many lotions with completely different sound create a dense sound canvas, where each guitar performs its own independent and irreplaceable part. Sometimes they merge to form other musical effects, so similarity is achieved, for example, with the sound of an electronic synthesizer. Harmony interspersed with noise – this is what determines the dragging.
It turns out that you can call a shoemaker to anyone who loads his music with a guitar “noise”? Yes, and sometimes those who do not. The direction has spread to many genres: such as the frivolous romantic dream pop or the misty gloomy post-rock. This also includes compositions in the style of psychedelic rock, noise or drone. The most famous became such teams as Cocteau Twins, Slowdive or My Bloody Valentine, whose album “Isn’t Anything”, released in 1988, made a kind of reference point for the era of music for melancholic and romantics.
The British movement took many thoughtful girls and patched guys into their cradle before the best ousted the good, namely, Brit-pop asked the shoegazers to be quieter. Good times were coming, already in the early nineties in England, the listeners were drawn to understandable energetic melodies that would not “load” them. Oasis or The Killers did an excellent job with this task. Indie rockers’ vocals are clearly pronounced and life-affirming, not that the muffled voice behind the wall of the guitars of the next shugaz-band.
As it turns out later – the history of the genre moves in a spiral, and after some twenty years, for example, in Russia, in the club a la “Ionoteka” will give preference to him. Here, the sound of guitars merges with the noise of trains departing from the Moscow railway station, which has a positive effect on the general atmosphere of the return, or even rethinking by the youth of “low quality dances”. It would be strange to talk about the similarity of “those” and “these” representatives of the course of different time periods and even countries. The current shugeyz strongly modified outwardly. Now just looking at your shoes was not enough, they must be captured in the photo. Well, the shoes from the photo should not be the last, as the style, the outer shell – these things for modern young people have become more important than before. Girls neatly cut their hair and dress a bit inconsistently – a common thing, shoegaz has now become “fashionable”. There is nothing bad in it, the “from the inside” movement has also sprouted with new colors. Looking down on the stage, it became possible for those who play grunge, and for post-punk lovers – to make noise with their guitars under the uniform beats of their drums.
“Dances for people who have no friends”, “introvert party” and other events with similar names bring music lovers together, even if they are different – they are all united by a sincere love for it, to the ability to hear harmony and melody in a stream of noise. Teenagers and young people in Russia hear the noise, sometimes helping to drown out the thoughts, closer to the American show. According to the same principle, in the 80s-90s, in Russia, a somewhat odd and ambiguous Russian rock took root – simply the music was warmer.
But now, looking at the slow dance under the Radiohead companies of people in a dark room, I believe more in the sunset of the era than in its long celebration. There are not too many romantics and quiet walks around the city at night so that the shoegaz will be on a wave all the time. The sudden interest of young people allowed the shoegaze to remind of himself to escape again, leaving himself the most devoted lovers of the genre. Moreover, such music will not leave anyone indifferent. It is enough to listen to the euphoric dream-pop compositions of such groups as “Grouper” or “After Care” to see how well the real penetration of such music, carefully preserved through the years, is preserved.
