Mnogoznaal – Hotel “Cosmos”

Albums are called synteypes (from the word cinema) for good reason – the performer believes that visual perception is important in his music, that is, the imagination, with which the listener will draw pictures in his head in Maxim’s scenes. But it is common for any film to end, and the Cosmos Hotel ends at the moment when it only begins to unfold before the listener. 25 minutes of timing is not enough, but it is better to do less and well than more and overdo it.
“In the hotel” Cosmos “cold and darkness” – a line that can be easily associated with something familiar. Surely, everyone remembers some abandoned building in his hometown, from which you, dear reader, were completely uncomfortable. The new synth Maksim Lazin is a way to merge the listener with his own memories with the help of fear, paranoia and cold.
It’s not so easy to make friends with the music of MNOGOZNAAL – here the listener is met with non-trivial melodic sketches, so that immersion into the worlds built by the artist does not occur immediately. It may even take a few auditions before you manage to break through the wall of fog that separates the real-life Pechora and the demonic snowy city, in which it is so easy to go crazy.
A special feature of Maxim’s performance is his unemotional grave intonation, due to which the songs resemble a shamanic ritual, and the looped lines are elements of spells. Combine this with the ambient component, which does not release the listener until the very end, and you get such a dense atmosphere of hopelessness and exile into reflection that can be compared with an abstract mental illness.
It is noteworthy that MNOGOZNAAL is responsible for the production on the album. This allows him to create the desired narrative line, as well as for mental perception, and for the primary – the auditory. If you remove all the sounds from the songs except the main drums, you will feel as if we are preparing for standard pop songs, but thanks to superimposed layers from deep bass, ghostly back vocals and a large number of small things, these songs get artistic features.
In general, to understand MNOGOZNAAL, it is required to study its “mythology” in detail, from time to time (watch a documentary film, follow all the work, look through voice recordings in the Telegram channel). But if you decide on this, try not to be disappointed, because in the end it turns out that Maxim is just like you, only his inner world is located on burning synthepahs.

The disc listens very monotonously and can hardly be called a creative leap with respect to the other releases of the artist. But instead, she proposes another movement, somewhere to the side, because it hides the most intimate, personal thoughts and memories of MNOGOZNAAL; She talks about Maxim more than any interview.
He presents the Day of Judgment as a necessity, insomnia, as a human trap, and toothy frost as a cozy habitat; describing his native Pechora is not at all a cozy city – in the same way, many people from small towns understand that there is no future in their homelands, but they still cannot tear their homeland and habitual life from their hearts. Such images allow listeners to find their own reflection in something gray but close to their soul; The main rule in such searches is not to lose the way back.
